What are your goals when it comes to language arts for your kids? I know that for my family, some of my goals are that they would be strong readers, have good reading comprehension, and to be strong writers as well. As a writer myself, I know how wonderful and valuable these skills can be, that’s why I want to pass them onto my kids. Literary Adventures for Kids is a great option to build these skills.
What is Literary Adventures for Kids?
My kids and I have been exploring the Literary Adventures for Kids Clubhouse for the last several months and it has earned our seal of approval! Literary Adventures for Kids is designed to give your kids an enchanting and relaxed language arts and that definitely matches with our experience.
As a part of the Literary Adventures for Kids Clubhouse, you have access to many online book clubs – nearly 100 and counting! But that’s not all, you also have a monthly live book club. And, if language arts is a struggle for you, you also have access to community support, workshops, and instructor feedback! So, if you’ve ever been teaching language arts and wished that you had someone in your pocket when you or your kids have questions about the book or writing you are doing, you have access to someone to ask!
Open and Go Language Arts
What I have appreciated the most about Literary Adventures for Kids is how easy it has been to add into our day. Every book club is clearly laid out – including a book list (so you can see exactly what book(s) you need), a supply list (so you know what you’ll need to complete the magic dust projects), and, if you want it, a weekly plan that will tell you exactly what to do each day!
Even if you don’t follow the weekly plan, everything is clearly labeled and divided. You know, for example, that everything in part one will go with part one’s reading. You don’t have to worry about accidental spoilers – you can pick and choose from that section and know that it will match up with what you just read. The self-paced nature of the courses means you can go at your pace!
It is also structured in such a way that your kids could work on the courses independently if you like. However, we choose to work on them together as a family. There’s nothing like the magic of exploring a story together.
Meaningful Connections to the Literature
Without a doubt, the best part for my kids is the rabbit trails and the magic dust. For my kids, this is what makes Literary Adventures for Kids enchanting.
Rabbit Trails help you expand the world of the book you are reading. They provide crucial background knowledge to help your kids understand the story. This really helps them to visualize and imagine the world of the story. They make the story come to life!
Magic Dust helps you connect the world of the book you are reading. These are hands on projects related to the reading that you have done. For example, when we studied A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we made magic potions. This was a top favorite activity for my kids and they made several!
Literary Adventures Teaches Grammar Skills Through the Books
Literary Adventures for Kids is fun, but it isn’t frivolous. Your child will learn to look at the text and identify various parts of speech, literary devices and more. They will also learn new vocabulary.
They will also practice writing in fun and unique ways! However, just because they are fun, doesn’t mean they won’t also be learning. When we studied A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we wrote sonnets and practiced writing in iambic pentameter. And because we’re having fun, it sticks! We recently had the opportunity to see a stage performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and at the educational workshop beforehand, my kids remembered what iambic pentameter was when it came up!
Live Classes Add a Special Element
Not only are does Literary Adventures for Kids include really solid novel studies, there are also live classes! There is one live book club class a month for each level and one poetry tea time.
My kids have really enjoyed these classes. They are quite interactive and my kids enjoy working on the creative projects – like writing poetry or building a story together. One time, they even built a story together about a hot chocolate monster! Dachelle does a wonderful job of making sure that everyone is included, while also keeping the class focused on the subject they are discussing. And, most fun of all, Dachelle often dresses up in costumes related to the book they are reading, which adds a special element!
