Review: This book was only okay for me. I felt like there were too many parts introduced – like different kinds of creatures, etc, that I felt distracted from the overall flow of the story without adding anything to it. That being said, what I did enjoy about this book was the themes – the emphasis on friendship, on learning to have courage, on learning not to doubt yourself because of others. I also appreciated Riley’s character; I felt the way you could see his inner turmoil about the magic, his friends, and his family was really great and very relatable for teens and tweens.
