Description
On the surface, poetry and math may not seem like they have much in common. Poetry is a world of words where the creative and imaginative use of language communicates thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Math, on the other hand, is a world of numbers, angles, and lines – where equations and formulas have the final say. Both can often seem confusing and out of touch, but they are each, in their own ways, about form and about understanding the world.
This Poetic Math Copywork Pack both explores the feelings that math evokes and how math can be used as a metaphor for the things we experience in life.
By exploring two things we don’t often think to combine, we can bring a sense of curiosity to the table as we explore works by Emily Dickinson, Carl Sandburg, Walt Whitman, and Robert Fuller Murray. It’s my hope that this copywork pack will bring you a new appreciation for both math and poetry and a sense of satisfaction in seeing both through new eyes.
This copywork pack is the perfect tool for homeschoolers, helping to open your child’s mind to cross-curricular connections. Includes 5 poems, copywork, info about the poets, and brainstorming to write your own poem about/including math.
