When my son told me he wanted to learn Spanish, I have to admit I was really intimidated. Unlike many people who take Spanish in school, I had instead opted to take German. Because I had never learned Spanish before, I was unsure how best to support my son in his desire to learn this. The videos are a big game changer for me. Since I never learned Spanish, I can’t just look at some words and know how to pronounce them. Each My Spanish Magic Zone unit starts with a video where you will see the words and phrases used in conversation. I wasn’t so sure about this at first. I felt a bit lost without a direct word for word translation at first.
However, I soon came to see the benefits of using this method. First – it allows you to start using what you learn right away in a real, meaningful way. I have already seen my son chat with people, find out they know Spanish, and be able to use what little bits he knows right away, which is a huge confidence boost to him. Second, it helps your child to understand how the whole language flows together – the sentence structure, the grammer, etc. From learning it this way, I often see my son will hear or see similar sentences and then puzzle out which parts are the same as what he already knows.
Tools That Will Help You Feel Confident
My Spanish Magic Zone has been so easy for my son that he feels very confident in his Spanish, even though he has only been learning for a little while and doesn’t know much yet. Because of its unique method of starting with language in conversation, it feels usable right away, instead of needing to build up a large bank of vocabulary first.
